Hi Jarno and welcome. I suggest you maybe start up a practice thread, and post there as little or often as the mood strikes you. That way, people can comment directly on your experiences and help you out a bit.

I enjoyed the video. Still working toward doing away with an individual sense of self. I relate with everything else. Needing less sleep, diet change. It's funny. Lifestyle change. Bliss that can last for months, (though in DK now).Seems there is an immediate paradox at work. I like myself, but I really want the concept of self to end. I don't want a self to have to like or dislike. So the self-loathing you mentioned fits. It's new for me and quite strong. I easily lose my self in nature. I long for nature because it affords me a taste of liberation. Thanks again for producing this.
Very nice to meet you!

Hi everyone. I'm a relatively new meditator. I participated in a morning samatha group in college (around 2008-2009), then stopped practicing until I found MCTB through Jeff Warren's NYT article earlier this year. Since then I've been reading DhO (posting occasionally) and KFD, where I first heard about AwakeNetwork. I think rigorous debate & more relaxed discussion with other yogis can be important parts of practice; I'm really excited to join this community.
Best,
Matt Horn

Welcome, Matt. Are you any relation to Vincent Horn, or do you both just happen to be using the same last name?

Very interesting intro! What name did you use on the other forums? I don't quite make the connection.

Welcome Derek and Matt! Good to see you here and thanks for the contributions.
There are a few more that have not yet introduced themselves.
Perhaps I should go on vacation more often.

Greetings Everyone,
Wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Dan. I have been posting my online journal over at KFD for a few months now under the same username. Some of you have checked-in/provided feedback and for that I am grateful. I started my practice about 10 years ago at a Goenka retreat while in my mid-twenties. Did several retreats over the course of several years with on and off daily practice. I think I hit an A&P during one of those retreats because I quickly got really zealous about the whole deal and started reading dharma books excessively, among other things . Anyway, The last retreat I went on (about 7 years ago now) turned into this really scary experience that seemed to come out of blue and knocked my socks off. I feel I have been "wandering in the desert" since that experience, too scared to meditate, too scared to let it go. Last fall, I had an overwhelming life experience that brought suffering to the forefront in a way that I had not experienced before and pushed me to confront those the fears that had emerged from my meditation practice. I soon discovered the whole pragmatic dharma scene started working with Ron Crouch and have been working hard balancing a demanding career, a family with 3 young children (6 and under
), and my revitalized practice. I feel as though taking a technical approach to my meditation has kept me from the massive over-psychologizing I did during those scary times and has allowed me to be present with it in a new way. Lastly, this journey has been largely in isolation with little to no engagement with other yogis. I am actively trying to change that with some participation here as I find engaging a healthy part of the practice.

Hi, Dan. Welcome to the community. My kids are 11 & 12 (13 next month). Those early years are so demanding. Can't imagine having 3 under the age of six, with a career, and solid practice, as well. Good for you! I came here to connect with other yogis, and it's helped deepen my practice, and the yogis here are now dear to my heart. Again, welcome.
