In the context it's a very humorous pointer.

Before the iPhone, I used my iPod to time sits, generally with playlists of varying lengths that included large tracts of silence. However almost invariably, these playlists started with the intro from the following track to help me settle down and get into the mood. I must have listened to this a thousand times by now:
magnatune.com/artists/albums/tilopa-bytheway?song=2
I was more in a Zen mode back then, but I still find the ambience created by this track so compelling that I am long overdue in sharing.

When I was watching American Horror Story S2 I got obsessed with Sœur Sourire, the Singing Nun from the 60s - they used her hit 'Dominique' as a creepy motif... her story is pretty interesting too, she was forced out of the convent, had a nervous breakdown and became an advocate for contraception, releasing another song about the Pill, before eventually comitting suicide (poor thing) along with her partner of ten years, who was a woman.

Anyone else watching Cosmos?

There are certain times when I watch it that I get overwhelmed with the feeling of being so small and so infinite at the same time that I almost come to tears. Science FTW!

Made me think of Russell's last post... although this one has different overtones. But it definitely has the tinniness!

Mystic experiences of unity in astronauts.
"But while Mitchell does not claim to know how to perfectly interpret his experience, he is certain that it was a glimpse into a largely ignored reality: People, places and things are all more closely connected than they sometimes appear. He also mentions the need for better stewardship of our precious planet."

Interesting new thoughts on the value of reiteration vs. integration.

Ha! Although since nothing matters in the end, then nothing matters in the end doesn't matter. Plus, in the meantime, there's hot fudge sundaes, so that's a plus.

"Nothing matters" as nihilistic sulk is quite different than "nothing matters" because radical non-problemness or inclusivity is being recognized.
(Cartoon funny even just as a critique of the really annoying sports commentator tendencies at the Olympics, though!)

Yes, I was thinking of the nihilistic vs inclusivity aspect, but the latter sports critique is mainly the level I enjoyed it on

On that tangent, the Olympic coverage here was mildly interesting in that they don't do as much of the "heart-rending life story" stuff about the athletes, and they don't comment DURING the actual routine (at least for short individual things like ice skating or skiing). They replay it and comment after. (Regular soccer/football coverage is a different story, with non-stop yelling commentary.)
