Sita Sings The Blues

I've had a recent interest in the Ramayana because of the power of some of the Hare Krishna kirtan that I've been participating in over the last little while... being 'satiably curious, and knowing a bit about the story and finding it troubling me from the knowledge that I had (particularly gender-wise), I've been chasing up bits and pieces, and I just watched this animated film, Sita Sings The Blues, which was the best thing I've seen for ages. I'm too lazy to describe so I'll let Wikipedia do it for me:

"It intersperses events from the Ramayana, light-hearted but knowledgeable discussion of historical background by a trio of Indian shadow puppets, musical interludes voiced with tracks by Annette Hanshaw and scenes from the artist's own life. The ancient mythological and modern biographical plot are parallel tales, sharing numerous themes."

The whole thing's on Youtube (and copyright free, by the creator's wishes).
