My husband was reading a book called The Inner Journey Home: Soul's Realization of the Unity of Reality, by A.H. Almaas, a Kuwaiti Sufi (modern). I took a browse through it this morning, and though I find it a bit intellectual/abstract for my tastes, the guy knows what he is talking about in terms of both awakening and post-awakening development (what he calls ascent and descent). He's very good. He includes a lot of background on concepts like the soul, the self, God, Being, and so on, particularly drawing on western philosophy.
Thought it might appeal to some of you.

The Diamond Approach is on my list of things to check out. I heard good things from people who are familiar with the method and I enjoyed an interview Almaas gave. I'll get there eventually!
