R.I.P. and Vale - S. N. Goenka was created by every3rdthought
Just heard that S. N. Goenka has passed away at the age of 90. I've never done a Goenka retreat (and from various things I've heard I have my issues with the organisation, practice etc as such), but if there's anyone who's done a massive amount to bring meditation (and in this case insight meditation) to the world, and to the Western world, it's Goenka (well, Goenka and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) - an endeavour for which I have the greatest respect.

Definitely a loss. I saw a really interesting documentary on him a while back, about his bringing meditation into Indian prisons. I think it was called "Doing Time", based on a quick Google search I just did. I believe I watched it all on You Tube.

Cool! I haven't seen that one but I saw one about Goenka programs in US prisons, 'Dhamma Brothers'
